4 WALLS FALLING "burn it"

A few years later 4 Walls Falling released this gem. It was only 3 songs but what a CDep it was. At first listen I was taken aback by the slightly more melodic and slick approach by the band. After a few listens I was hooked. These songs are so damn catchy and the subject matter really struck a chord with me. Pay close attention to the lyrics. They were well written and on a whole other level for me at the time and really helped expand my mind and see the world around me. Hell I was only 15 when this came out in 1992 but hearing a band talk about things that were going on in my mind really made life a little easier for me. Fortunately I got to see these guys after I picked up this record and they seriously never let me down. The energy shown in the photo above by both the band and crowd is rather accurate of each and every show with these guys. Check these 3 songs out and give them a few listens before you cast your judgment because once you digest them a little bit I am hoping you feel the same way I do about them.

The downfall to this record was the absolutely horrid cover art and the fact that it is in a CD wallet. You can kind of see how bad the artwork is in the small photo but up close it looks even worse & bitmapped. It's like some bad clip art image or something. The only other thing about this record that made me chuckle was the final line of the CD where singer Taylor Steele states "You can have your twinkies, I'll keep my health." For some reason I always find it amusing when a band throws in a word or phrase that you wouldn't normally would think would appear in a song. A word such as "Twinkies". Maybe it's just me, but that made me giggle. Not to mention I loved Twinkies at the time.

This was recorded and released in 1992 on 7"/CDep via Redemption Records which if memory serves me correctly was a division of Watermark records or somehow related. It also had distribution though Dutch East India which at the time was pretty big shit.

1. "Burn It"
2. "Happy Face"
3. "Temple"

UPDATE: Word on the street is that there's a 4th song from this session so if anyone has that in mp3 format and would be down with sending it my way that would rule. Hit me up at info@surpriseattackrecords.com

Awesome, I never did buy this because I hated the art and was always lazy about buying EP's because I so rarely listen to them, but as usual these are killer tunes. Why are no bands so unique sounding like this anymore?

when this came out, I listened to "Temple" a gazillion times. If THESE guys did a reunion, I'd be there, camped out outside like a deadhead.

great ep. Always liked this band (brooklyn@sentechsa.com)

Love "Happy Face" - mostly because it sounds like Verbal Assault meets Face Value.

The fourth song was called "Building" and is pretty slow/droning (as best I can remember). I have the demo tape somewhere- I'll take a lookey loo around for it. Heck I think I still remember some lyrics to that bad boy......

"Military based economy, human annihilation...."

I still love this band. Hearing this reminds me of growing up in Richmond and hangin out on Grace street when I was too young to get into shows. It's great to see that the bands is still making an impact on people, they have definitely had an impact on me.

holy crap, I too only have the 7" and I never knew more songs existed. I found this site trying to get lyrics for a song off of culture shock, and I'm so happy to have found these MP3s... I just bought an Imic, and this means one less 7" to rip.

Here's a link to a 1993 demo by Four Walls Falling that I ripped and posted recently:

http://www.mediafire.com/?dp9vk1lh11g

It includes 5 songs, 3 of which were released on a European 7 inch. Those 3 and 1 more were rerecorded for the "Food For Worms" LP, and the fifth song wasn't released anywhere else. That fifth song is called "Killing Machine" and includes the "military based economy" lyric that another poster mentioned. I don't know if that "Building" song was an earlier version of this song, whether that commenter was remembering this song by mistake, or what. Anyway, feel free to pass this demo along to your readers.

There's a full (of full-ish) live show for download. It's from Virginia c. 1994 (probably in Norfolk at the King's Head Inn). The digital file was produced from an audio cassette.

Building was recorded at the same time as Burn It, Happy Face and Temple but was never released. I think the name changed to Killing Machine shortly after it was recorded.

Funny thing about the "twinkies" lyric - Taylor was touching up the lyrics in the studio and it was a goofy last minute change.
