DIVE "s/t" 7"

Dive were an early metallic hardcore band from the New England area. When I first heard this 7" over 10 years ago it gave me chills especially in the beginning of track 2. It has a nice mix of that chaotic metal that Massachusetts residents have been churning out for almost 2 decades and a little dose of Deadguy, Rorschach, 1.6 Band style of hectic hardcore. Members of this band went into the almighty Overcast and I believe Get High (I could be wrong about that one). Here you will find their first 7" that was released in 1993 on Evolution records. I'm pretty sure this was hard to find back then and obviously even more so now. I strongly recommend track 3: "Functional Starvation". That song has so many elements that make me want to punch myself in the grill.
"They're trying to put me out every day kicking down and manipulating so he said they're fooling you, you're fooling yourself. The hate grows stronger every time you hit the floor, the strength to continue is not in you anymore. It's so fucked up and upside down to tell you what you can't believe the workplace lives on an addiction to drink the blood of evil thieves. Evil thieves. Try to escape - there is no way - that you can stop this perfect stalemate." - Functional Starvation

EROSION "III" CD

Erosion were an early German band fusing elements of thrash and hardcore. Not the nostalgic sounding bands you hear today. You see, Erosion were around from 1989-95. Somewhere between Carnivore and Tragedy you could possibly find Erosion. I remember my friend had picked up one of their 7"s sometime in 1992 and I bought their CD "III". We'd borrow our mom's cars and drive around blasting the CD. It was just this weird mix (for us at the time anyway) full throttle metal influenced hardcore with a crusty punk edge to it. I didn't know what to think. I mean it had fast as hell parts accompanied with lots of double bass and an occasional groovy breakdown. Hell there's even some trading off of guitar solos that you would think Kerry King & Jeff Hanneman were doing. The recurring theme of war was seen throughout their releases with an apocalyptic & pessimistic view of the future Europe and the rest of the world. Surprisingly enough a few years after having this CD my band became labelmates with them for a brief period before their demise. I liked what I heard, hopefully you will too.

NO ONES HERO "s/t" & "the bridge is burning down" 7"s

Pennsylvania has produced some pretty awesome hardcore bands over the past 20 years and I've been fortunate enough to witness many of them. Some have received great status and acclaim and others are virtually unknown at this point. 15 years ago there was a band called NO ONES HERO who I believe were from the Lancaster PA area. Other than these 2 7"s featured here I am unaware of any other releases from this band. I was lucky enough to see them live a few times in 1992-94 and their sets were always very energetic and passionate. I would have liked to have seen what more this band could have accomplished. Judging by these releases I could have easily pictured them opening up for Unbroken on a full US tour. The recording on the "S/T" 7inch is a little muddy but the rawness really works with it. I love some of their transitions and tempo changes. A few of these tracks have really stood the test of time for me and upon hearing them again I still feel that energy. The 2nd 7" has a slightly better recording quality to it. Check them out and enjoy some older PA HC.

THIS WORLD REJECTED "s/t" 7"

Buffalo NY spawned an amazing metallic hardcore band by the name of Zero Tolerance. ZT went on to influence many bands of that region. Bands like Solid State (who became Snapcase), Slugfest, Sumthin To Prove from Erie and I'm sure countless others. One of the main reasons anyone outside of the Great Lakes area might know them from is their appearance on the 1993 Victory Records "Only the Strong". Prior to that they had some other killer material that may find it's way onto Coregasm sooner or later. Word on the street is that someone somewhere is working on a discography. If that is true I know that there would be at least one sale to this guy right here.
This World Rejected featured members from Zero Tolerance and released a 7" on (oddly enough) Initial Records. Which in hindsight seems really strange for this label due to the amount of more melodic "emo" releases they went on to release. This 3 song record is nothing short but awesome in my eyes. TWR's sound is unique and one that many people might not be into. On the other hand the select few that are into it fucking love it. For some reason I always enjoyed the cover photography. There was just something about the tones and colors in it. I am unaware of what really became of this band and I had never really heard much more about any other releases but if they had more out there I would love to check it out. Check out the sick double bass. It's some sweet stuff.
P.S. If anyone has the Zero Tolerance 7" and would either like to sell it or if anyone has those songs in MP3 format I would be eternally grateful to get a copy. Thanx. - EMS

CANON "the solution" 7"

Canon was a short lived Philadelphia area band, Doylestown to be exact. Vegan straight edge was ascending in status throughout the hardcore scene. These youngsters picked up "Firestorm" and must have been immensely inspired by it. I had the chance to see these guys play a few times back then. I was still in highschool in central PA and would make the trip to Philly or NJ what seemed like every other weekend. Basements, firehalls, & church shows were in their glory. Up and coming local bands at this time for the 215 area were Frail and Canon (who happened to share a drummer). Both were straight edge bands with political slants but extremely different in sound.
Canon drew influences from the burgeoning Syracuse hardcore scene. At times they remind me of Earth Crisis, Green Rage, and what Morning Again would later go on to do. Their live shows were decent and the kids seemed into what they were doing. After a locally distributed demo word on the street was they had a 7" coming out soon. I remember that this 7" took quite some time to be released, like almost a year or so. It was on Chapter Records which was ran by the same guy who did Fade In mailorder. Many people were starting to talk about their sketchy dealings and lack of responsibility & organization. After many months the 7" finally saw the light of day and at the time, the slick glossy 7" sleeve was real impressive.
I'm not too sure how long after the 7" came out that the band broke up or as to why they did. I would have been interested to hear more that came from them. The title track "The Solution" lyrically is something that I have always felt is overlooked in the straight edge scene, promiscuous sex. So having always adhered to this level of responsibility myself I was and still am glad that bands touch(ed) on these subjects. Now whether or not they back these lyrics up is another thing. I'd be real curious to know how many from Canon are indeed still vegan and still straight edge, but that really makes no difference to me. They released a solid 7" and put on a good live set and have a place in my memories from 1994-95.

FAHRENHEIT 451 "the thought of it"

Fahrenheit 451 were another NY band that had that smooth groove. I don't know if it can all be traced back to Beyond or really where this sound started. There's just something way more diverse about a lot of these bands from that area and time frame. Bands didn't seem like they were just trying to write the heaviest breakdown, the cliche sing alongs, or the standard fast part. These NY bands just did their own thing.
F 451 are another one of these gems. There's plenty of blanks that I need filled in on this band and it seems like the people reading this blog do an amazing job of educating me and everyone else who reads it. So other than a few of these guys doing some stints with District 9 & maybe Vision I'm not really sure what else these guys had been up to.
I started searching the web for stuff about F 451 and it's kind of crazy I decided to feature them. Why? Well it looks like they are playing a show in a matter of weeks! Apparently they are releasing a discography CD along with a DVD and are playing a one time show. You can find more about that on their myspace page.
Here I am featuring 2 tracks from their CDep "The Thought Of It" which was released by Striving For Togetherness. Apparently every song they ever recorded will be on the discograpy but you can still pick up "The Thought Of It" from Very Distro. In fact, if you order from Very Distro and put the word "COREGASM" in your comments section upon checkout, you will receive 10% off of your whole order! Pretty sweet.

PREVIOUS POST UPDATE:
Sara the vocalist from Terrorcake (a band who I have always been searching for more stuff from) somehow found the blog and posted some quick info. Looks like she's working on compiling all of their stuff and will be putting it online. She also posted a link to a website that still has their one 7" along with the Albany compilation that I had featured a little while back. Pretty cool. I just ordered my Terrorcake 7", can't wait to hear it. I've only been looking for this for like 10+ years.

PITTBULL "the very worst of..."

I picked up this 7" in 1992. It was another one of those "didn't know shit about the band but it looked hard". Boy was I right. Pittbull (what a hard ass name too) were from Detroit which is notorious for it's hard way of life. Their music and demeanor reflected that. The band started out in 1987 and had a handful of releases. This is a 2 song 7" entitled "1990" which was released on Fist-O-Cuff Records of the same year. The only other release I had at the time was a killer "s/t" CD on Nemesis records that if I would have had my way at 15 would have gotten the flame design on the cover tattooed around my wrist. Thank god you can't tattooed that young. The band didn't seem super well known in my area but the people who had experienced them seemed to be really into it. I'm not sure how much they toured the US but I do know that they toured Europe a few times and might have even had a CD out on Lost & Found (not 100% certain but I seem to remember something of this). The band has a weird mix of punk/hardcore and some weird rockish guitar riffs. Tempo changes come out of nowhere in some of their songs. All of this adds up to a nice really raw and ballsy sound for the band. To complete the package you have Mikey's voice that is reminiscent of Paul Bearer (Sheer Terror), Anthony (Killing Time), or even Mike from Judge. Gruff, shouted, and the lyrics were still distinguishable. I can feel the sense of urgency and bitterness as he sings. For some weird reason with the more experimental aspects of the music Pittbull reminds me more of a Rollins Band for the working class everyday man. I hold this band right up there with all of Detroit's other great bands. Give them a listen. Just this past year Disconnected Records released "The Very Worst of... Pittbull" and has 22 tracks. Most of their older titles are probably really hard to find so I strongly recommend this release. I have taken the 2 songs from the CD version instead of straight from the vinyl just for clarity and quality reasons.

MIND OVER MATTER "Hectic Thinking" 7"

New York has always been a constant source of outstanding bands in my opinion. The hardcore scene there has brought forth so many varieties and original sounding bands it blows my mind. When people try to pigeon hold NYHC I know deep down inside that they just want to be a hater and look no further. The eclectic bands that came out of that area from 1988-1995 still make me just as excited as the days that I discovered them.
Mind Over Matter were another band that you wouldn't typically think of as the poster child for NYHC. With a slightly more discordant sound to them and a bleak feel to it, M.O.M. were a nice addition. I remember buying this record solely on the fact that Wreck-Age Records had released the Madball "Dropping Many Suckers" 7". I wasn't disappointed at all. The first thing you will notice is the guitar and chunky drum sounds that many Don Fury recordings from those days were known for. In hindsight it reminds me of what Quicksand was kind of going for but with a little more of an edge to it. Definitely listen to track 4 "Feel the Pleasure and the Pain". It has a nice feel to it.
From my limited knowledge of what became of this band I do know that the drummer John Lafatta was also in the amazing Neglect and he did a short stint in Madball playing drums on one of my favorites "Look My Way". Guitarist Arthur Shepard wound up in Errortype 11 as well as a handful other bands, most recently with ex Quicksand / Bold / Handsome / Beyond guitarist Tom Capone entitled Instruction (which i believe are now broken up). He also produced a lot of albums for other NY bands such as Silent Majority and a few more that are eluding me at the time... I'm not too sure if the vocalist George or bassist Scott where in anything else that I should know of.
The bands has a few other CDs that came out on the now extinct Wreck-Age Records. I'll probably post their earlier 7" as well soon. It's just as good as this release. "Hectic Thinking" was recorded in March of 1993.

OUT OF REACH "problems with democracy" 7"

You know I really hate when I go to post a sweet 7" and all I can really say "I don't really know a ton about this band" etc... But over the years I've just picked up so many 7"s from random bands that I either never saw, or they weren't around very long. I picked this 7" up because it was released by some kids I knew in Pittsburgh. Ascension Records was a collective label started by one of the guys from Abnegation and later on Creation is Crucifixion, and a few of the guys from Pittsburgh Screamo band Pressgang. Out of Reach really wasn't the type of music that I would have expected them to release but regardless I enjoyed what I heard. Ascension Records went on to also release the Forethought (who later became Autumn) 7" but after that I don't know if the label did anything else or what direciton it went. I'm pretty sure Out of Reach were a PA band and this 7" was recorded in Gettysburg, PA and it was Ascension Records #1. The recording is from August of 1992 and is a nice mix of raw, chunky, mid tempo (with some faster parts here and there hardcore that PA/NJ/NY has been known to produce over the past 20 some odd years. Let me know what you think!

BURN SIDE "Rebirth - Jersey Style" 7"

The mid to late '90s in NJ was some serious glory days for some, and a source of constant frustration for other hardcore fans. The thug mentality, Kickboxing, and metal were all creeping into hardcore more and more at that time. Many people ran away from this style and others welcomed it at the door. I was one of the ones who embraced it with open arms. I related to the harshness and attitude that many of these bands and songs were emanating at the time. In fact, not much has really changed about my tastes to this day. I still listen to a wide variety of music but I'm a sucker for some good old groovy hardcore that is genuinely filled with anger and ferocity.
Burn Side was a small band that put out a few demos through out the nineties, a 7" (featured here), and a CD on RPP records from Belgium. These 4 tracks were released on the short lived Gut Punch Records out of NJ who also released a NJ compilation (featuring Burn Side). Something about this record I just enjoyed. I felt this 7" was a good start for this new band. Mine is number 38 out of 666 and on some serious pink vinyl. I remember I used to distro this back around that time and the kids who did pick it up also enjoyed it. Anyway, here it is, Motherfucking Jersey Style. This was released in 1997 on Gut Punch Records.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
I've received several emails from people asking me to send them tracks, however here's some important info that might help you out. This may seem redundant to some but many people do not realize that you can save these tracks straight from our server here at Coregasm. If you aren't too familiar with this, simply right click over top of the MP3 hyperlink & select "SAVE LINK AS...". It's fairly simple. After you have saved the file to your computer somewhere, take it into your mp3 player of choice (win amp, itunes, etc...) and play it from there. I recommend even saving the cover art with the selected tracks from that release. If you have any further problems just ask around or drop me an email.

SHOCKWAVE "warpath" + xDISCIPLEx AD "scarab" 7"s
My label Surprise Attack Records has recently repressed the two following records. Both were originally released in the 90s and had great responses worldwide. Neither of these has been pressed since 2000 at the latest. We had a few original covers laying around from the initial presses so we figrued to give them both one last hoorah. Check them out! Memebers from both bands are now in Jesus Wept (whose new CD is one of this years best) & No Innocent Victim.

sa13 - SHOCKWAVE "warpath" 7" (click here to order)
Back in print after over 5 years. Recorded and released back in 1997, this 7" was a milestone in Erie Hardcore history. Shockwave quickly became notorious throughout the world with their brand of heavy hardcore and catchy lyrics. Playing shows only once, maybe twice a year at the legendary annual Erie, PA Shocktober shows, an occasional West Coast special appearance, and one tour of Europe, the band was very low key but made huge waves throughout the scene over the past decade. This will NOT ever be repressed on vinyl again. COLORED VINYL: 500 on Blue.
MP3 - "Kickback"

Back in print for the first time in years. This will be the last pressing of this 7" ever! So don't miss this opportunity to get your hands on their second recording ever. "Scarab" was recorded 10 years ago and is still an amazing release in the xDisciplex A.D. back catalog. In your face metallic spirit filled hardcore. This record set the Erie scene on fire. See where the band got their start as this is your last chance to obtain this on vinyl. Members now in Jesus Wept & No Innocent Victim. COLORED VINYL: 600 on Clear.

GATEKEEPER "1994 Demo" Cass

In the early 90s the Hardline movement was flourishing. Vegan Straight Edge was at an all time high, and boy did a lot of people get annoyed with them. Regardless of me not necessarily adhering to many of their "guidelines" I did however enjoy a lot of the bands from those days. Even if most of them pretty much flaked out and turned into what most of their lyrics were about.
Syracuse hardcore was no stranger to the Veg-Edge movement. Around the same time Earth Crisis was starting out there was another band with some of the same members called Framework. Framework was more melodic vocally and musically but backed by the same ideals. Vocalist Shane Durgee had a very distinct vocal style. Framework made a decent mark over their span with 2 7"s and a CD.
It seemed like vocalist Shane went through a string of bands after Framework that just didn't seem to stick. Many of them would produce a demo and not go much further than that. Gatekeeper was no exception. I'm sure they probably played a few local shows but other than that I don't know if people outside of the 'Cuse would have heard of them. I believe that the guitarist Dave was also in Green Rage who had a 7" out on Shane's label. You can hear a lot of similarities between the 2 bands musically. The drums are a little rough in spots as it seems like he can't quite pull off his beats as heard in the beginning of track 3. Regardless this was a decent demo for the time and continued the Syracuse Vegan Straight Edge legacy. This demo was recorded June 1st 1994 at Penguin Studios.

NEW SCHOOL "Strategy Rhyme 1991" Cass
WARNING: This post contains white people rapping and playing slap bass. You were warned.
The year was 1991, the band was called NEW SCHOOL, the demo tape is called "Strategy Rhyme 1991". They had no shame in their game. New School came out hard and had fun while doing it. The couple times I saw this band the show turned into a huge party of people just freaking out, bouncing around, and having a good, unpretentious time.
If you couldn't stomach the Dog Eat Dog post, or the Mucky Pup post, or perhaps any of the music I prefer, maybe you should eat a bowl of dicks and get out of my blog! But seriously folks... NEW SCHOOL is not for everyone, but at the age when I saw them, the positive vibe the crowd had, and the groups energetic live show, the memory of this band just stands out in my mind.
According to their contact address they were from Forest Hills, NY, wherever that may be. I believe they had another demo tape but other than that I don't know. Enjoy the Strategy Rhyme, you'll be pumpin your fist in no time. Play that funky music white boy.
